F.A.Q.

Curious about thebeAst Fitness? Let's answer some frequently asked questions. Read our F.A.Q. below.

Q: What exactly is thebeAst Fitness?
A: thebeAst Fitness is a gym in Louisville, KY that focuses on functional fitness. We combine cardiovascular exercises and weight-lifting exercises to help you get fit.

thebeAst accommodates individuals of all ages and physical activity backgrounds. All exercises are modified to your level of ability, always challenging but also safe.

Q: How many times a week should I exercise?
A: Depending on your health and fitness goals, we recommend taking a thebeAst class anywhere between three and five times a week. Most clients start with three times a week, to get their body used to the activity. This also creates a good routine. Many of our clients soon find they enjoy our classes so much they come in five times a week, or even more.

Q: What about rest days?
A: Traditional resistance training needs rest days to give targeted muscles time to recover. thebeAst Fitness classes are constantly varied. This allows you to come to class as often as your energy, schedule, and motivation allows.

We offer unlimited classes with our memberships, so you can work out as often as is right for you. We also have open gym hours, so you can drop in at your convenience if you want to work on a particular strength or skill.

One rest day a week can be beneficial for true recovery. You will learn how to listen to your body, pushing when you can and resting when necessary, to get your best results in the safest way possible.

Q: What is a typical thebeAst workout?
A: thebeAst workouts consist of three main elements: a warm-up, skill and strength training, and the WOD (workout of the day).

Q: What is a WOD?
A: The Workout of the Day is usually a MetCon (metabolic conditioning). This is high-intensity interval training (HIIT), designed to increase cardiovascular performance. It allows you to do more, in less time, than traditional strength training and cardio (such as treadmills).

Q: What does all this terminology mean (WOD, MetCon, etc)?
A: As with any pursuit, you will find some language exclusive to your activity. Don’t worry, there’s no quiz. It’s just part of the language of the gym and you’ll pick it up as you go. Our coaches explain every workout thoroughly, every time, and are right there with you through each workout.

Q: Are thebeAst workouts safe?
A: Absolutely. All physical activities hold some degree of risk. This risk is minimized by an understanding of good technique, using proper form, and having the right trainer.

Our experienced and certified coaches will provide you with thorough instruction on all exercises, and we make it our goal to help you avoid any potential injuries.

Q: Can I watch a class before joining?
A: You are welcome to visit us during any of our classes. Even better, we offer a free introduction meeting that includes a workout. Check us out, ask any and every question you can think of, and decide if thebeAst Fitness is right for you. (spoiler: It is!)

Q: Do I need to be in shape to start thebeAst Fitness?
A: No! Our program is designed for individuals of any physical activity background, age (15+), or gender. Whether you’re a Navy SEAL, getting off the couch for the first time this month, or someone who is simply looking for a regular workout routine and wants to shed a few pounds, we match our coaching to your needs and goals.

Q: What if I can’t do an exercise listed in the WOD?
A: Don’t worry about it. We provide modifications for all our workouts to allow both beginners and experienced athletes to train together. We can always find an alternative exercise for you that will help you achieve results. Train alongside fellow members, at your own pace.

Q: Can I gain muscle mass with your workouts? -or- What if I don’t want big muscles?
A: Our gym isn’t about bodybuilding, at least not in the way you might be thinking of it. Our gym isn’t full of mirrors. All people benefit from being stronger and with the right amount of body fat. That doesn’t mean you have to look like the Hulk or that you’ll be skin and bones. We can help you bulk up, if you want, or slim down.

thebeAst workouts build lean muscle and burn fat. Our coaches work closely with every member, from the beginning, to ensure we understand your goals and that our programming gets you there.

Q: Will you help me with my nutrition?
A: Of course! We all know nutrition is vital to getting results. There’s nothing to be gained by working hard inside the gym if you aren’t properly fueling yourself outside of it.

Our trainer will help you develop a specific and easy to follow nutrition plan that meets your goals, budget, and lifestyle. Further, we help you monitor progress to stay on track.

Q: What does your gym offer that regular gyms don’t? Why is thebeAst Fitness so expensive?

A: A regular gym is leasing you space to use their equipment. You may often find yourself waiting to use a piece of equipment. Once you have it, most don’t know the best way to use their time to get maximum results. Even if they have a routine, sooner or later you will plateau. Results will slow or cease. Many regular gyms advertise having “personal trainers”. But they are employees of the gym, with divided focus and ultimate loyalty to their employer.

thebeAst Fitness provides you with trained coaches who work with you daily (even when you aren’t at the gym) to ensure you understand and follow the proper approach to exercise and nutrition to get results. Our training adheres to proven science. You won’t find yourself competing for equipment.

Also, thebeAst combines Olympic weightlifting and cardio with yoga, high-intensity interval training, and gymnastics to deliver a complete system. You will build strength, mobility, and endurance.

Q: How long does a thebeAst workout last?

A: An average thebeAst group class lasts about one hour.
